Fall Thyng 2024

Post by Comyn »

Comyn, Sabha, Brogan, Guthrum, and Foinoulla attended the Norseland Fall Thyng assembly to pay respects to Moriah and Wolfgang and help to send them to Valhalla. We believe this is just the Norse word for the otherworld. Comyn arrived by mid-day on Friday and set up his 8 by 10 wall, 2 Clann tables, and chairs for hospitality. The dog banner was hung in the tree to mark our camp. Brogan arrived soon after and set up Fjolnir's wedge which did the Clann honor as we were in the land of the Norsemen, after all. Guthrum and Foinoulla arrived quite late and were travelling light in a mundane but hid it well behind the wall and its color blended well with foliage to make it basically invisible. Still, they arrived in time to enjoy many of the typical Friday night festivities.

A large wedge was set by Konrad and Zeta as a shrine for Moriah to the side of the common area with a table at its end for tokens of remembrance to, and a portrait of her. This stood next to a rather imposing pergola set by Sludig for Wolfgang which was dedicated as the Wolfgang memorial music stage - or at least something close to that as my knowledge of their "runes" is remedial at best. Angus, Comyn, Halvdan, Eralyn, and Bragg played many tunes that had been prepared for Moriah and Wolfgang in it during the day on Saturday.

Everyone contributed to what seemed like a day-long day-board which provided cheeses, breads, grapes, meats and mustards and more to a steady stream of visitors during the day, and a most beautiful day it was! A light breeze kept the warmth of the sun from feeling too oppressive, and there was plenty of shade thanks to Godric's strategic clearing of the land.

Moriah's brother and other mundane family arrived as Thyng assembly ended. The procession to the ships to the sound of the bagpipes was an incredible sight. We joined it and laid our offerings in the boats. Many fine things were said of the departed and then we prepared to feast in their honor. The feast was impressive as always aided by the new permanently installed smoker which stands at the end of the longhall. I made sure to show this to Brogan so that he can make a better one! Then the boats were lit after Wolfgang's uncle Erik blew three blasts on a horn. Angus played the Dear Irish Boy for Wolfgang and led some eyes back to the rest of the musicians who were set up under a nearby awning (but impossible to hear from the fire). Stories, songs and music were made which continued in Ravenclaw. The Ravenclaw fire was a more fitting place for Moriah's intimate musical tribute arranged by Angus (Neil Gow's Lament into two polkas) and two limericks by Aonghus and our performances were universally well received and hopefully bring the Clann some small wordfame.

Comyn stayed in Ravenclaw until almost 5am and thus lost Last Viking Standing bragging rights to Morkar. Jurik entertained with Bragg and Fishkar and others deep into the night. The Clann had all left site on Sunday by the late afternoon.
