Just something that popped up in my timeline not too long ago that may be of interest. I don't know how old the article really is.

Re: How-To Videos
Either or both. But I'm also thinking about Iron Age skills such as making wattle walls, stone oven, fire starting, grinding grain, etc.

How-To Videos
I've been playing around with the idea of making blacksmithing and/or iron age skills videos, but I have no idea what sort of topics might be of interest.
Any thoughts? Any interest?

Re: Cooling vessels
Very interesting! Now that I know about these clay vessels I'll be certain to keep my eyes out for similar ones at Celtic digs. Since the main functionality of these is the evaporation through the unglazed container, it's entirely possible Celtic pottery also had this feature. Perhaps in conjunction...

Plans & Horn
It looks pretty straight forward to construct, unless you're going for a copy then there's a fair amount of decorative detail to emulate. Although I'm by no means an expert on this, I think you may be able to soak the horn in boiling water to make it more pliable. Additionally, the horn may start to...

Guilds
Although I have been following this discussion, I was hanging back until what I feel is a key point could be illuminated further. Are guilds appropriate to begin with; how far back do they date? Since my academic resources on this topic are limited I asked at livinghistory.ie where it turned out tha...

Iron Age Life
You're very welcome. Yes, I would *love* to locate the original 1970's show and see it in its entirety. I was also pleased that they included Barry Cunliffe's "ah-ha!" moments when he was able to rectify what he had always seen in the archaeological evidence with what was going on with the...

Re: Surviving the Iron Age
Have you had time to watch the mp4's? What did you think of them? I found it very interesting that they decided to build the roundhouses while camping on site, and just how much of an improvement even they were over "modern" (1979) camping equipment. The other thing I found interesting was...

Re: Surviving the Iron Age
Nuts. I've got to check my account settings. I'm not longer subscribed to these threads. Anyway, yes, I can get you a copy. It's currently divided into 6 - ~25MB mp4 files. If you want them that way I'll set up an ftp area. Otherwise, I'll proceed with my long term goal of stitching them into a cohe...

@Comyn - Yes, I would have loved to have seen more of a documentary approach. I think it could have been better (even with "civilians") if they simply didn't focus on the "reality tv" aspects. BTW, I have captured the original 1970's SIA which is significantly more "document...
