TdB Bardic Circle graphic and tees
I was messing around with a new graphic for the TdB Bardic Circle (I add artwork to the mp3s I create) and I realized that it might evolve into a cool tee shirt! I like the idea of having a fab logo for the TdB Bardic Circle just 'cuz, and Sabha found a place that makes one-off tee shirts online which can do just a few if anyone is interested. We got a couple in and they were NOT the quality we have come to expect however.

On the topic of tee shirts, I was also tasked with creating a logo for Clann shirts at the last meeting, and I haven't gotten very far so I was thinking maybe I would use this opportunity to get some feedback on that as well. Obviously tee shirts can't have this many colors and be affordable unless I am mistaken, right? Other ideas I had were to use the artwork on the current silver coin as a basis for a tee shirt logo. I contacted Vollund to get an original of it, but we never ended up finding time to get together on it. He suggested a horse, and I like that idea.

What online source was that?
What online source was that? We have a our shirts on CafePress but we haven't actually bought any yet. Hopefully the bad source wasn't them.

Cafepress
No, it wasn't them. Sabha will be able to offer some more details soon I hope. I wanted to have a couple done before Imbolc with the TdB Bardic Circle logo from the new place she found, but I doubt there will be enough time. The tees we got for Christmas presents were OK, they just weren't Hanes Beefy Tees which is what I consider a quality tee. Sabha says she has found a place that will do multi-color on Hanes Beefy Tees for under $20 at some small qty. I know we have paid a lot less than that - but they weren't multi-color. The ones I have done have been one color, silk screened and were cheap. Guthrum has a source in Patchogue that does a different kind of process which seems longer lasting than silk screening for comparable price. I'd just like to be able to do one offs on good quality, and multi color would be awesome.

It was zazzle
We used Zazzle at Christmas. The shirts weren't what I was expecting from "premium". It was synthetic, had a weird finish to it and just felt strange. They don't provide a whole lot of detail on the type or brand of garments they are using.
I have been looking at a few different places online today. Hanes Beefy Tees are the gold standard of quality T-shirts around here, but they tend to be pricey. Many sites are using American Apparel, Fruit of the Loom and Gildan. Anyone have any input on those brands? I've really just scratched the surface but I have been looking at customink.com, spreadshirt.com, and brokenarrowwear.com so far. I'd like to get an idea of how many and what sizes and styles everyone would want so I can get some realistic qoutes to present at the next meeting.

T Shirts
The place that we got them printed up last time was right next to the Bluepoint Brewery. (wonder how I found that place) They do inkjet printing, so there is no set up fee, and they can do any and all colors. It was pretty affordable, too.

T Shirts
Personally, I'd rather spend a few extra bucks on a shirt to get the better quality material that the Hanes Beefy T's seem to offer. The last batch of shirts, in the dark brown, were a great quality and I believe these were the Hanes shirts.
T Shirts
I haven't ordered yet from Cafepress either though I do have a shop :)
But their T shirts do say they are Hanes, and at least the long sleeved one said Hanes Beefy, if that's at all helpful.
The benefit to putting your T shirt art on Cafepress is that it can go on multiple products, and folks can pick and choose what might be best for them. And folks like me can get in on the cool art too! :)

T-shirts
Although I do like the convienience of cafepress, I don't think it's really right for our group. First, I like the idea that once thy sell out, there is no more. I wear the clan shirts all the time, so I buy 5 at a time, just for myself. If I had the option of getting it whenever, I would get one here or there. I also like the idea of walking away with the product in my hand. I've used the shirts as gifts to people who have done something for the clan or have made an extra effort to make the event more. I think it's better hancing it to someone then telling them it's shipping, or whatever.
By the way, are we doing shirts?

sizes
Obviously we'd have to do a price comparison with other online houses, but it seems like Cafepress is more expensive per shirt than having them done locally. I saw tees on Cafepress that weren't Hanes Beefy for $17! Did I miss something? Also, I am personally a bit of tee shirt snob - if it's not a heavy quality tee I won't buy it - and it's hard to evaluate that online unless we get a couple in to test first.
HOWEVER, we still have about 14 tees left over from the last purchase, and they are all sizes which are not likely to ever sell. If they were all $12 each as i think I remember, that's $168 of Clann funds wasted. This is a problem (excess inventory) which would certainly go away if we used an online per-order service. If folks wanted to have some to hand out for good deeds or presents, they could always buy a few extra and lug them along to an event for that purpose ;)
Another idea I had was that we could do both. The online tees might not have a logo on the back, say, or the logo we use online might not be dated. Something to make them a bit different from the 'official' shirt that we sell at events (and on which the Clann would probably make more profit).
Yes - we are doing some kind of tee shirt, hopefully before Beltaine. The only decision at the meeting was that I would work on some stuff and pass it to Colin. However, we did not do pre-orders at Imbolc as per the last meeting notes. This suggests that the best course in the short run may be to go online unless we set a firm plan and have all artwork decided by next meeting for a decision. I have been working on some artwork on my own and I will co-ordinate with Colin when I have something, but am still hoping to get something cooler from Vollund - I know he intended to sketch something period, as we have discussed it several times.

T-Shirts
I sort of like the idea of being able to reorder a favorite when it wears out.
My all time favorite is the 2001 gray heather shirt, and I'm afraid to wear it because it will wear out!

Grey heather
Yeah! And I never even got one of those. It would sure be nice if we could at least have the past tees available for one-off printing. Hey, that's not a bad idea! I have the art for the 1999 and the 2000, who has the rest?

Custom Ink
Custom Ink looks like a more reasonable deal. They actually tell you what product you're buying (ie: you can order a Hanes Beefy Tee in a whole mess of colors). They also have 1 through full color printing on front and back, and the price goes down as you increase quantity. (I got a quote for $12.40 for 20 Hanes Beefys with 2 color printing on front)
Guthrum hasn't mentioned it here, but the last shirts used a superior printing process (not silk screening) so an online house needs to be asked whether they would offer that as well.

Shirt idea
I've been working on several ideas, and Vollund and I might be getting together sometime this week if we can work it out. Personally, I feel strongly that the shirts should always have some archaeologically correct Celtic element. I'm not a big fan of the Green Man or other such Celtic revival motifs. Vollund and I have spoken and he agrees. At Imbolc we discussed using art from ancient Celtic and Roman coins, or stone carvings. One idea I had was to trace out the La Tene patterns on the Battersea shield and do something with it, maybe color it or otherwise mess with it in some fashion. I did this today just to see what it would look like. The design was done in Illustrator and then brought over to Photoshop for coloring. There are a couple images of the Battersea shield in the galleries already. I also like the design used at the top of this thread for TdB Bardic Circle, but I think I want to make shirts out of that for the Bardic Circle folks only :)
Battersea inspired I updated this a little and replaced the old one. I changed the year from Roman numerals into 2008, and changed the outer colors a bit so the curvilinear pattern is more pronounced. I didn't change the color palatte at all though. Then I also changed the pattern at top and bottom a bit. One thing folks with sharp eyes will notice is that I have not included the swastikas that originally graced the embossed circles on the artifact itself.

idea update
note a slight update to the offering in the parent post.

I like it
Are you thinking about the same colors, or different for the shirt? Also, would it have the same front and back, or just one side? I very much want a Bardic Circle shirt.

ideas
I'm thinking of coloring some of the outer yellow portion black so that it's not really a circle, but shaped - I'll post it when I do it. Sabha didn't like the colors, really. I'm totally up for suggestions. Or, if you have a photo editing software, I can post the .ai file or the .psd (photoshop) for anyone to play with the colors.
Any suggestions for the front/back? I really haven't thought about it. It seems like it would make a great logo for the front, and if it was blown up more, we could remove the website and the year for the back?
I will probably have to tweak the Bardic Circle logo a bit more first, its not an .ai but a scan - might be problematic. I'm definitely planning on making some though!
