Comyn's Fitchneal board

Comyn's Fitchneal board

A number of these boards were made by Comyn and Grimnir more than 15 years ago. Comyn still has his and brings it to most events. Look in the library for rules for Fitchneal (Fidchel / Viking Hnefatafl) if you want to learn how to play. Remember, games are always more interesting when you're playing for Clann coin!

I was reading up on the various rules for the game, and we seem to play a cross of the Scottish Ard Ri setup and the Finnish Fitchneal Tablut. We've always played with the pieces set up as in the picture here, where all pieces move like rooks in chess, and that the king wins by exiting the board anywhere (not by getting to the corners), but it will be fun to try out some other variations.
