trailer project
I thought that it might be nice to have a forum dedicated to this. I wasn't able to make the proposed trailer day. How'd it go?

I wanted to help
I left messages for and emailed Aonghus, Brogan, and Colin before the scheduled trailer work day because I had some time and really wanted to lend a hand (if needed) but never heard anything back on the topic. It's possible Brogan just figured he didn't need any help, I dunno. I'd really like to know what the latest trailer status is too.

Please update
Hopefully Aonghus is feeling a bit better by now! Could either he or Brogan post an update on the trailer status? I know that a Beltaine Launch is now unlikely, but is there a desire for a work day before then? If not, should we schedule a work day for the old trailer to make sure the hot water works this time, and to make sure it's stocked (with paper towels, etc.) and ready to go?

Trailer
The new trailer project has not progressed due to scheduling issues and my health.
At this time, maiden voyage for beltaine is all but doubtful.
I had inquired on custom welds from my contact, who was too busy to assess and said he was not free till spring. It is now almost spring and I will follow up as I think it will be worth it.
this is likely the last trailer ever so i want it as perfect as possible.
The current trailer water heater still needs to be maintained. Brogan has the nessasary equipment, once again, its a matter of scheduling.
Its getting a bit warmer so perhaps motivation will soon follow.
However, I should also like to point out, that the tralier was packed last event with alot of personal stuff on it (litterly strapped on it)and it is in the way of maintanence. My suspicion is its Brogan's or Volunds.
Flushng out the heater is a minor chore that doesnt require alot of hands, but people qare welcome to come doen for moral support as always. also if tyey want to make some busy work for themselves and repack and organize is fine too, but there is no organized plan of action and one would be working under thier own direction more or less.

Old Trailer work
We had a fairly successful trailer work detail today, but I had to leave at 4:30 so I don't have the end of the story. Here's what I know: The passenger side tire had no air - we filled it with air and it held for the entire time I was there. We pulled everything off and vaccumed the thing, and put back everything neatly. I forgot to mention paper towels (there weren't any on there), the old bamboo tikis were tossed, they were split and falling apart. I think we're all in agreement that iron tiki stands are the way to go. Bamboo sucks. We kept all the tiki canisters and Brogan thinks he might be able to work up some way to use them when his forge is complete. The iron cookware looked good. Colin went through the pantry with Aonghus and tossed some old stuff, but otherwise we're good. The little parts to the grill were put in the firepit (1/2 55gal drum) which was supposed to go up top, though I left before this was replaced.
The rugs on top were Brogans (or Volunds). They were removed, laid out to dry and then folded for storage in Brogan's van.
The sink has a bit of a leaky seal, and was leaking a bit from the now unused connection for the water filtration system, but Brogan tightened that up.
Nomad is not in good shape. After multiple flushings, and running full pressure from the faucet, we can't get good enough flow to trigger the heat. Colin made a quick call to Guthrum, but we may need to have him (or somebody) physically inspect and diagnose it. Left as is we will not have hot water for Beltaine.
While we were waiting to get started Brogan showed me his project books with plans and sketches for building stuff and I was heartily impressed! I want to build a table asap, and might be into making chairs, but not sure about the Tuam chair since I've sat in it and frankly, it's uncomfortable. After all, it's not dubbed the 'chair of woe' for nothing.
Brogan also let me don his armor and I think I may like it better than a Lorca. Oh, and his armor fits pretty well too, except it's a little big around the middle :)
[note: I missed Aonghus' Trailer Day Update forum topic post with a more formal final report. Incidentally, I missed it because I have removed the Active Forum Posts block, and I don't always click that What's New link.]

New trailer
While I was at the shop I looked over the new trailer with Brogan and then Aonghus. This thing is a tank. It's a solid workhorse, and once complete will be able to tote all of the present stuff and more with ease. Problems needing addressed include:
- Tires are dry rotted - Brogan and I both think a visit to a junkyard will solve that problem more cheaply. New tires can run $120 each easy for the big wonking tires this thing takes.
- I noted one side marker light that is smashed, but the rears look good. Rewiring is probablt in order, but I've done that before and it's not a big deal (or big cash). Replacing light housings can be expensive unless we do a junk yard run also.
- The brakes seemed fine with no load according to Aonghus but he'll have to look at that too over time.
Other cool features I saw
- The leaf springs looked good, though they have a little rust, it's a lot less than my old F-150 and they were fine.
- It's got a nice welded bar on the back designed to hold ramps, though we might not need ramps for anything at this time, keep this in mind!
- Brogan noted that the ride back with it was a pleasure compared to the swaying hell of the old trailer. I've towed trailers from trade shows and a swaying trailer is a major PAIN. The fact that this thing has four tires makes towing it much more pleasant, and in case of a flat, much safer.
