Irish Cultural Centre

I don't know if there is a place for this already, but I didn't see one. I think a links page with be a good idea. Having links to other related sites is not a bad idea.

I'd like to post the first.

This is the project that Fionnuala mentioned at the meeting. Check it out.

links page

You're right - there is no Links page, as such. From the Website scope document:
A links database Still needs to be done! -(Comyn) 2/5/07 6:35 AM

I evaluated a links database module which works, but I decided against integrating it since I'm not so sure we really need one. If you have something interesting to share (like this link to the Cultural Center), if you make a post (either importnant enough for front page or not, either way it will get filed away in the library eventually), it has the link in it. In fact, if you look through the library, there aren't many pages that don't have links in them. Many have more than one. So what is a links database, really? A list of links to friends sites perhaps? Seems like the 'Official Friends' page in the library might have a page within it (a subpage) with links to all our neighbors. Then it would be in an appropriate place and so, easily findable again.

It's just a different approach to the same thing. I've had links databases before on my own sites, and what happens is there's no context on a lot of the links and you forget why they were posted in the first place. Typing up a bit of text about what it is and why it's important and filing it in an appropriate part of the library will make it easier to find than a big list.

By the way, creating a link that actually works takes a little effort. I'm happy to 'fix' them so they work, but here is the official word on how to mark up your posts:

Slaintefest

This site is run by the same folks that run the Slainte Festival in Patchogue.

Yup. The Slainte Festival,

Yup. The Slainte Festival, now renamed the Long Island Irish Festival, was the beginning of the idea of this project. Eventually, and maybe even this year, the LI Irish Festival will be held on the property of the ICCLI. It will be a good fund raiser for us.

Yesterday we marched in the Montauk St. Patricks Day Parade and handed out cards directing people to the website. We estimate about 4000 cards were handed out.
