Clan Tuatha de Bhriain

Samhain '00

The Celtic New Year was celebrated this year with much fanfare and revelry. The festivities actually started on Thursday with two tents being erected and eight hard-core medievalists camping out for the night. Friday turned out to be one of the biggest Friday turnouts we've ever had, with many of our far away guests showing up to enjoy the excellent welcome stew prepared by Vollund (with some extra Elk meat provided by Faellon).

On Saturday, people engaged in mask making and other preparations for the evening's festivities. The battle for Clann Champion was held in a tournament officiated by Juric of Norseland. Guthram was once again victorious and remains Champion.

That night a tremendous feast was held, which featured Sausages that were prepared beforehand during a sausage making day at Guthram and Finnoula's home. Of course, the New Year also means elections and new officers. Congratulations to all of the newly elected officers; Eberwolf was elected Chieftain, Brogan is now the Druid and Feni, Guthram remains File and treasurer, Earlan is the Bard, Aonghus is Secretary, and Volarian remains the Bruighean. The Clann also decided to make Anam an official friend of the Clann.

The Druidic ceremony reminded us of our spiritual renewal, and featured the burning of an excellent wicker man brought to us by our Viking friend Greycloak. Later in the evening, our File treated us to a poem, and many of our guests entertained one another with songs and stories around the fire. In fact, most of the late night events were very close to the fire, as it was very cold everywhere else.

All in all it was a terrific Samhain, and hopefully a sign of a great year to come.
