What News
Collin: Work has changed and getting crazy again. Doing Sales!!! Also working on getting a house before the end of the year.

Falgon: Nothing Much
Volund: Still out looking for work but the market has been quite dry. He is spending some time looking up items on the Internet (mostly about coins). He acquired time on Fox sports for the golf show should be ready by next season.
Aonghus: Major Trailer work… Found some bolts loose on the bottom. Hooked up the water filter twice… Moved some other things around and plugged some much-needed holes.

Faellon: Doing nothing Medievaly. He is going to be an uncle and work has been crazy lately.
Guthrum:
Working on house. He is stoked about purchasing property upstate
about 22.7 acres. Looking very close.
Finnoula:
Working on house. She is stoked about purchasing property upstate
about 22.7 acres. Looking very close.
Momus: He is back on the road. Still doing Comedy and smoothing into summer.
Eberwulf:
Hellska had an operation. Work has been crappy lately due to a judge
sleeping with a director of a boarding school. Not reported in the
news… He likes the new camp handbook.

Dairchain: He mentioned that his persona story was starting to be a long but he can’t help himself. Elysia “you mean Novel,” He is now
teaching himself Aramaic so he can better translate some earlier interpretations.

Elysia: Started a new job as an Ophthalmologists assistant. She likes working with people and hearing their stories.

Hellska:
Finally got back to work after surgery. She missed working and while
she was out put new curtains up in the den. No more lime green.

Annisse (Cow):
Respectfully declined.

Treasury Report:

Old Business:
Brewers Guild:
Since Collin has not been able to get anything down for the brewers
Guild Brogan Volunteered to get the ball rolling. He will work with
Collin to get something down for the September planning meeting.

New Business:

Fiachra: The Idea of
getting a medicinal welcoming kit for him was brought to the table.
Everyone welcomed the idea and Brogan pledged a chest to put it all
in.

Anyone wishing to
donate items should have them to brogan before the event.

Pennsic Planning:
31-regestiered
26- definite

Discussion broke out
about the use of the handbook as a guideline to how jobs/tasks are to
be done.

With that he also mentioned he made a point system to judge the hassle factor for doing each job/task.

Annisse mentioned it would be nice to know ahead of time what tasks are expected of her.
Aonghus mentioned that previous guests mentioned they feel they don’t do enough around camp where they wish they could pitch in on certain items.
After some discussion it was decided that if a guests stays more than three days they are no longer a guest of the camp but are now part of the camp.

Then the discussion moved back to the point system and the need for it. The following was discovered.

Brogan and Aonghus are starting to get burnt out and they are feeling resentment for doing the mother load of the work.

Momus is tired of being accused for not pulling his weight.
Guthrum and Finnoula didn’t realize there was resentment.
Everyone recognized that Brogan and Aonghus do more than their share of the work.

Most people gave many opinions about the problem and then we took a break.

INTERMISSION

Upon returning we got back to the discussion of using the CAMP MANUAL as a test at Pennsic.

Motion was made by Aonghus to use the Camp handbook for Pennsic and see how we get on with.
Second: Falgon

Passed unanimously by all Pennsic attendees

Motion made to use the Plan Of The Day for Pennsic as well
Second: Falgon
8 vote for
2 abstentions

Passed by Pennsic attendees

Motion was made by Collin to use the point system where points will be evaluated by all Pennsic attendees as to decide on a hassle factor for the job/task.
Second: Fallen
6 votes for
2 apposed
1 abstention
Passed by Pennsic attendees

For this to be affective Aonghus will send his list of items to everyone
so they can put what they think a job/task’s hassle factor is. An
average will be calculated from the numbers and be used a Pennsic
only. A further evaluation of the point system will come after
Pennsic.

What News

What News:

  • Vollund - Is not working at this time. Has been trying to get a show about golf off the ground, and has been working for free. Has started to learn how to carve wood, and has been working on a woodcarving project at the shop.
  • Finnoula & Guthrum - Guthrum stated that work has been taking up a lot of his time. He wants to win Lotto. Went to the shop and turned a bowl on the lathe with some wood billets that he received for his birthday from Finnoula. Both Guthrum and Finnoula have been doing a lot of work in their basement, and have been doing quite a bit of gardening. The basement is almost finished. They are hoping to be able to host the next planning meeting in their newly finished basement. While shopping at target, they saw a little childrens wooden folding table and chair set that would contribute to a medieval atmosphere. Finnoula began turning a bowl out of mulberry wood, however, the wood billet cracked, and had to be repaired. Brogan interjected that the billet had been glued back together, and was ready to be worked. Finnoula also stated that she went to Florida with the children and enjoyed the warm weather.
  • Aonghus - has completed a template/jig for producing wooden camp beds. The device still has to be tested. If all is well, this will cut down production time on camp beds for all who wish to build one. He recently completed work on his armor, and has begun fighting. Recently, he attended an SCA event and was authorized on Pole Arm. The work on the handbook has been bogging down, and some assistance is required. A locking steel cabinet was acquired for the shop, and now all of the tools and equipment can be properly stored and secured. This measure will hopefully enhance tool accountablility efforts. He has been taking bagpiping lessons on Friday nights. Aonghus also stated that he has gotten more space for the website, and indicated that more images can now be displayed as a result. Anyone wishing to submit images is welcome to do so, however, it is requested that they include a caption explaining who is in the photo, and what the context is. This caption should be directed not only at other members of the group who view them, but also at viewers who visit the website and do not know us or what we do. By doing this, we can put the photos into some sort of understandable context. Aonghus also remarked that he had been recently threatened and extorted by a militant terrorist organization, but that a resolution had been reached.
  • Falgon - has been working on his armor. Has been working as usual. He also announced that he has become an uncle x 2 !! (His brother had a daughter, and his sister had a son).
  • Brogan - has been working with Aonghus on the camp bed template/jig. Has been taking bagpipe lessons, and hand-made a cherry wood practice chanter and a leather case with a compartment for storing extra chanter reeds.
  • Valerian - A message was read by Eberwolf containing Valerians WhatNews - Her mother is doing well, is scheduled to undergo a new blood test in a few weeks. She recently started a new treatment. Valerian and Charlie are going to make an offer on a new Condo. Sent a hug and a kiss to Helska.
  • Eberwolf & Helska Eberwolf - has been doing very well on his diet, and has come off of his medications. The park dates are registered. The group is registered for Pennsic. Has been working and hanging out. Eberwolf and Helska said that they are going to have to repair their front step, and that they are thinking about putting in a wooden deck. They also refinanced the house, and are saving money as a result. Helska recently purchased a beautiful new digital camera with various attachments.
  • Elysia & Dairchan Elysia - turned a candlestick on the lathe, and has been doing some leatherwork; She made a warrior's belt, a pouch for her feast gear, and a drinking horn holder. She has also been doing some brass etching, and has been
taking bagpiping lessons. Dairchan has been teaching bagpipe classes. He also has been doing some leatherwork; making a warrior's belt, a baldric for a sword, a couple of belt pouches. Dairchan has also been doing some metal etching. Both Elysia & Dairchan have been doing quite a bit of work in the garden, and have recently built a lattice archway at the shop. A new section of fence was put up, and an old section of fence removed. Elysia purchased a $150 faucet, brand new, on ebay and Dairchan installed it. Also, a new pull-down attic door was installed, and the entire attic emptied, the old insulation removed, and new insulation and flooring installed. Dairchan has been learning the programming code for a bagpipe music writing software, and has begun writing bagpipe exercises for the bagpipe class, and printing them out. He intends to code all of the tunes for the group, and print them out in the near future. Lastly, the 10 gallons of Apple Cinnamon Ciser will be ready to bottle very soon.
  • Erlan - Did not attend this meeting, but had obtained permission to attend an SCA event this weekend from the chief. Unknown to her, however was that Eberwolf had been contacted by an SCA Representative and informed that Erlan was going to be presented with an SCA award for all of the great things she has done for the SCA. Congratulations Erlan!!

Treasury Report

Treasury Report:

Current Balance: $ 1830.00

New Business

Park Reservations:
The park has been reserved for Bealtaine.

Clan Reimbursement Policy

Discussion: Reimbursement Policy.

Resolution: Generally speaking, items that are pledged for event feasts are non-reimbursable. There are exceptions to this general rule, i.e., high-ticket items (with pre-approval), Pennsic food plan purchases, financial hardship cases (discreetly handled on an individual basis).

Camp Set-Up:

Discussion: Topics included general campsite set-up, including placing the chief's tent and officer's tent, pros and cons of setting up from front to back vs. back to front. The impact of vehicles being brought into the campsite - i.e., the benefit to an individual of being able to drive to his or her site, and unload and set up directly from his or her vehicle, and the impact upon an individual forced to wait for others to move their vehicles before being able to set up their own tent. Feast location, taking in space required, terrain issues - i.e., flat level ground is optimum for the feast area. Safety issues - proximity to fire, etc. Personal preference: Clan members co-located, guests co-located, member co-located with guest, members preferring to camp near other members,
etc. -- The main question being:Is there a better way of setting up, is there a way to enhance and improve set-up, in order to make it more economical, etc.??

Resolution: A deeper familiarity with the new campsite is required prior to any decisions, or sensible discussion being possible. At the next event, the campsite will be surveyed. The best areas for the feast, the cooking fire, and the trailer will be identified. Once this has been conducted, discussion will resume if and when necessary.

Old Business

Old Business:

  • Brewer's Guild: Tabled until event has been discussed. No objections.
  • Clan Coin Project: Following a brief discussion, it was determined that Colin has failed to motivate Vollund to work on the coin project. Vollund expressed his opinion that had he been properly motivated, he is certain that this project would have been completed by now, or would be very near to completion.
  • Bealtaine T-Shirt Project: Dairchan reviewed the proposals that he had obtained, explained the results of a cost/income analysis and made a recommendation to use a particular vendor. The design for the T-Shirt was shown, and the color scheme was discussed (hunter green ink on a sage green shirt) and agreed upon. The pre-orders were reviewed and
updated. The pros and cons of the various vendors were discussed.

    Motion/Seconded: (Eberwolf/Brogan) Vote to approve
    proposal/recommendation to purchase Bealtaine T-Shirts.

    Discussion: See above.

Vote: Passed Unanimously. Dairchan will provide the treasurer with a breakdown of pre-orders and extra-orders. Once the treasurer approves this breakdown, the necessary monies will be dispensed with which to pay for the T-Shirt order.

Personal Business

The bagpipe music writing/playing software was demonstrated to those in attendance, after which various insults, jibes, and bawdy comments were bandied about, the parentage of certain individuals was brought into question. Various disparaging, derisive, and otherwise colorful and denigrating pejorative terms and labels were assigned to some (accurately or inaccurately is difficult to ascertain at this time). Following this, the overall attractiveness or unattractiveness of some individuals was discussed in some cases, and the general level of hermaphroditism and inherent mental illness of others was remarked upon in others. A relatively short conversation regarding freaks and other similar creatures took place. After a thorough examination of all of the facts at hand, no resolution was arrived upon concerning these issues, however, nor could any evidence be brought forth to substantiate any of the aforementioned allegations, allegations, claims, hints, heresies, or accusations. The entire conversation was therefore deemed superfluous and was struck from the record and it was decided that dinner was a much more important issue.

Move to adjourn by Eberwulf, seconded and passed unanimously

Meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM

Beltaine, '03

Some notes from the old Message board

May 04, 2003 20:47

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome home I received at the Beltaine gathering! It had been three years since last I shared your hospitality and it felt like I had never been away.

A great feast was held around the wonderfully hand crafted tables of the people of Bhriain. Much mead there was and it loosened the tongues of many. Vollund led the people to a woodsy grove where it was divined that the coming year would be a prosperous one. The twin fires burned brightly all evening. Though the unseasoned wood crackled and spat it still lit the smiling faces of the Clan as they raised their voices in song, eager for the coming spring.

A far cry from a Beltaine long ago: MCMXCVIII

In service,
Comyn

Thank you to all for making this year's Bealtaine such an unqualified success! We had a great time!

Thanks to Colin and Faellon for the great meal, Thanks to Vollund for officiating at our Handfasting, it was fantastic! And thanks to all of you who were there to share it with us.

Erlan, the stew kicked ass!!

Rhiannon and Sean, it was great having you as neighbors!

We are looking forward to seeing you all soon. We hope that everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did.

The tale of Vollund and the Lamb's Head' will be told many, many times, we are betting!!

Thanks again for the good times, the hospitality, and all the laughs.

May 05, 2003 08:26

Greetings! Thank you to all members who made this Beltaine such a wonderful event. As always, it was wonderful to be so warmly welcomed. The hospitality shown towards us in lodging by Brogan and Vollund were beyond comparison. To the Cooks, the carrots, barley, pottage, honey butter, brussel sprouts and turnips were well worth the work. A lovely, satisfying meal. Though I'm certain I finished dead last in the he-man competion, it was quite the experience attempting to toss the log. Thank you Finnoula for not wrestling me to the ground:} Colin, I appreciate you humoring me with the ring toss onto the lamb game. Hey, it's a dead animal on a spit and some sticks, sounds period to me! To everyone else for their company. With love and bright blessings, Anam

May 05, 2003 19:47

Thank you to all the kind and generous members of Tuatha de Bhriain for such a magical and happy first Bealtaine experience. Faellon, Sean, and Vollund's Mead was intoxicating (perhaps an understatement?) and delicious. Erlan was so kind to loan me clothing for the event, and to give me some medicine to assist with my meadover. The lamb that Faellon and Colin made was absolutely amazing, while Aonghus and Brogan's vegetables were exquisite. Thank you all so much for allowing me to join your clann as a guest for two nights; I was made to feel welcome.

I put all the photos that Karen and I took with my digital camera online. If you find that you really like one of them and want a print-quality version, just email me and I'll send it to you.

Dear Friends, First, thank you all for making Beltaine an excellent and successful event. I think everyone worked very hard and despite some problems beyond our control, the event ran rather smoothly. As you all know, it is getting near the time for our Pennsic planning meeting. Unfortunately, I have family commitments on both June 21st and June 28th, so I need to pick a different date for the meeting. Since the Pennsic meeting is usually pretty long, I think it should be on a Saturday, but It could be on a Sunday if absolutely necessary. I need to know if anyone absolutely cannot make it on either June 7, or June 14. Also, if anyone would prefer one of those dates over the other, or if a Sunday would be better, let me know. I basically want to pick the day that it seems the most people will be available. Please let me know soon, as I would like to set a definate date by next week. Also, if you haven't registered for Pennsic, please do so, the deadline is approaching. If you have, please let me know that as well, and let me know if you are aware of any friends or guests who have also registered with us. I'd like to get an idea of how many pre-reg's we actually have. I am also printing this message on our clann message board, so I hope everyone will be aware of it, but if anyone knows that someone isn't aware of this message, please tell them to call or e-mail me. Thanks again. In Service, Eberwulf

Probates:
Dairchain, Elysia, Maeve
Friends:
Hellska

The meeting was opened with a blessing from our Druid at 12:51pm

What News:
Collin: Doing house stuff… Consuming the most of his time.
Brogan: His hip went out at Pennsic. Surgery is looking evident. He is also very concerned about what will happen at work after the surgery, as he will be limited in what he can do. He will still be able to fix things but not move them around like he has been. Luckily he has a new referral for a doctor here in New York.
Falgon: Other than working on some items in the shop nothing much is happening.
Volund: Still looking for wok and thinking of a change of career. He is thinking of trying to be a video education teacher. He is looking to getting certified to do such things and many good suggestions came in from almost everyone and he will be looking into most of them.
Aonghus: He is cataloging his library with over 300 books with 90% being Celtic in some way. Also found that he owns multiple copies of some books
Faellon: Very busy with work and working out. Can’t wait for the house to come through.
Momus: Comedy is going well. He is also making Man Eating Plants out of walnuts. His company name will be Tim’s Nuts
Eberwulf: He has two wedding to go to. Had some stoups put in on the house and he is very happy with them. He was also very happy with not getting flooded at Pennsic.
Dairchain: He worked a job playing the bagpipes, which was an awesome time, but when he got home there was an inch of water on his floor. It turned out to be a water main that busted. He replaced it him self which turned out to be a huge hassle. He had to dig a 25’ ditch “Major Hassle”. As for his persona story it is finally finished but he is trying to come up with synopsis but it too was to long. Vollund suggested making a movie out of it. You never know….
Elysia: Married almost a year already…time is flying. She is happy about the tenants moving out. She also scored very well on some tests for advancement at work.
Maeve: School is taking the most of the time but she still has time to go to a football practice or two.
Hellska: She likes the fixes around the house and also the speed in which it was done.

Treasury Report:
Since the Treasurer was not present there was no report.

Old Business:
Brewers Guild: Nothing has been done with this as of yet due to mundane realities. There is a request for a list of goals for the guild. Collin will put this together if he has the chance to.
Clan Coins: Vollund has all of the equipment to do the dyes but hasn’t had the chance to get to the dyes. Collin publicly tried to motivate Vollund but it went nowhere.

*Both are automatically tabled until the next meeting, as they require a unanimous vote.

Personal Business:

Erlan wrote a letter to the chieftain resigning from the clan. These are the comments from several clan members.

Momus: Passes
Vollund: She hasn’t been acting the same lately. She was very unreasonable at Pennsic. He mentioned one incident when she had a guest looking for her and she snapped at him.
Aonghus: Upset with her behavior at Pennsic.
Brogan: Restated what he already said publicly on the web and worried about her bad mouthing the clan.

There was a general feeling that she didn’t even want to address the issue because she chose to resign her membership rather than talk about it.

Aonghus also states “If she wants to apologize his heart is always open to her.”

He then followed it up with a story about the great warrior Cullen where the moral of the story was that sometime you have to quench your anger.

Eberwulf the put a motion on the floor to close the meeting
Seconded by Fallen
Unanimous vote closed the meeting at 3:40pm
